The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heav’n.
Provide each day our daily needs;
Forgive our sins as we forgive others’ wrongs;
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil
For Thine is the kingdom, forever and ever;
And Thine is the power, forever and ever;
And Thine is the glory, now and forever,
Amen, amen, amen.
Commentary -
This setting of the Lord’s Prayer is based on the traditional text found in Matthew 6:9-13. At Epiclesis, the church where I serve as pastor of worship and liturgy, the congregation either speaks or sings the Lord’s Prayer each week just before partaking of the Lord’s Table. This setting was written for that purpose. But it is also appropriate and easily integrated into other parts of worship services. These might include a choral or congregational response to an invocational or other pastoral prayer, a concluding song sending congregants on their way into the world to love and serve the Lord, or integrated into a worship set of songs.
The Lord’s Prayer is available as a lead sheet, as solo/melody line with piano accompaniment, and as a choral arrangement (on request).
