Singing the Liturgy, Volume 1
Singing the Liturgy (Volume 1) is a collection of original settings and adaptations of traditional texts of the church. The five songs included in this volume reflect and fit into the four-fold pattern of worship: Acts of Gathering, Word, Table, and Sending. But they also may be used within a set of songs and hymns or, especially in the case of The Lord’s Prayer and Lord, Let Your Servant Now Depart, as solo pieces.
Each of the songs is included in both lead sheet form and arranged for piano accompaniment. This gives a great amount of flexibility for instrumentation and your own church musicians’ strengths.
From the opening, invitatory words of Gloria Patri, drawn from Psalm 51:15 – “Lord, open our lips, and our mouths shall proclaim Your praise” – through the closing doxology of Lord, Let Your Servant Now Depart, this collection is a musical journey of worship that declares and sings the whole story of God. May it lift your hearts up to Him, and strengthen you as you “teach and admonish one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God” (Col. 3:16-17).
