Commentary -
The text for this setting of Agnus Dei is taken from the ancient prayers of confession (Agnus Dei and Kyrie). In churches where a time of confession is part of the liturgy, this sung prayer can be used in place of the spoken prayer or sung in addition to a corporate prayer and/or time of silence. It can also be integrated into a worship set of songs and hymns. Because of the meditative character of the text and music, it is particularly meaningful in times of individual or small group prayer and worship. As you listen to the recording or play through the accompaniment, listen for the “sigh motif” in the first and third sections, and for the change to the relative major key in the center Kyrie section.
