Our Father in Heaven
Our Father in heaven,
Your name is holy,
Your name is holy, our Father.
Your kingdom come,
And Your will be done
Here on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us, we pray,
Our bread for today,
Our debts forgive
And in turn we will live,
Forgiving of what others owe.
Keep us from trials;
Save us from our ancient foe!

Commentary -
Our Father in Heaven is an alternate setting of the prayer Jesus taught His disciples, based on the traditional text of Matthew 6:9-13. In 6/8 meter, it begins in a joyful, somewhat lilting feel, then turns more contemplative until it modulates to a confident statement of praise and faith. This piece can be used any time the Lord’s prayer fits into a worship service – as part of a time of preparation for the Lord’s Table, or concluding a time of Confession, for example.
